On or around their child’s first birthday, parents take their child to smash a sheet cake as part of the adorable tradition known as “Smash Cake Photography- צילומי גיל שנה.” Because of the opportunities for creativity they present and the potential for additional income they offer, these sessions can be a fantastic addition to the services you offer to your family photography clients. Line and Roots, our family photography company, recently began offering smash cake photo sessions. In this article, we’ll share some of our favorite tips for getting the best pictures with smash cakes.
Make Ahead of Time
Setting inflated expectations for the duration of a shoot involving young children is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Plan on the shoot taking 2 hours in total. Although there won’t be as much actual shooting, you never know how the baby will feel or act. If the baby isn’t making the faces for the camera that you’re after, give yourself some time to feed, change, or amuse the baby.
Get Your First Few Shots
Before the cake smash, snap a few pictures because you never know what your child might do once they’ve tasted the frosting’s sweet flavour. The time before the cake smashing is the only chance for clean portraits of the family because the cake will make the outfit and the props messy. To highlight the cake’s details, take photos from different perspectives. To highlight the cake’s details, take photos from different perspectives.
Crumble cake feet
To tell a complete story, take a few pictures of the cake alone. But also think about taking pictures of the cake from all sides, the top, and the bottom. Get some detail shots of the cake’s toppings, such as the whipped cream or frosting, and try experimenting with close-up shots.
Simple Lighting is Best!
We advise using primarily natural light for simplicity’s sake. This will make it easier for you to picture your shadows and take your mind off of having to take pictures of your child. Keep your lighting simple, but if you must, bring in a soft, diffused flash and an umbrella.
Create a Stylish Shoot
A theme-based smash cake photography session can give the photoshoot a lot of personality and character. Banners, balloons, and other decorations that go with the theme can be used. You should consider both the parent’s and the child’s interests when selecting a theme for your cake smash photography. Consider complementary colour schemes as well as what is offered locally or online.
